If You Employ Workers in Texas, You Need to Know ?About This

Texas passed a new law this month that will require employers with at least one employee in Texas to post a notice containing the contact information of the Texas Department of Public Safety to be used for reporting instances of violence or “suspicious activity”. The Notice must be posted in sufficient locations to be convenient to all employees and in both English and Spanish, as appropriate.

The effective date of the Reporting Workplace Violence Act is September 1, 2023. The Act directs the Texas Workforce Commission to publish Rules prescribing the form and content of the notice, and allows it until March 1, 2024, to do so.

It is not clear whether Texas will attempt to enforce the posting obligations after September 1, 2023, but before the TWC issues the accompanying Rule in March of 2024. Employers may want to consider creating their notice form out of an abundance of caution.
